As a product of the New York City public schooling, I know the importance of a good education.  It is something that every child is entitled to.    With our overcrowded classes and a 50% high school drop out rate it is fair to say that we are failing our children. Mismanagement of school funds and a lack of parental input are at the core of the problem.  Additionally, too much emphasis is placed on standardized test preparation and not enough on teaching.  We need to get the proper tools to our schools so the students have a chance to succeed.
 
My campaign will focus on improving education in the following areas:
 
Reducing class size so students can get more individual attention
 
Bringing teachers into the discussion on how to properly spend school funds
 
Less focus on standardized testing and more on educating our children
